Click whichever link is the manufacturer for your vehicle and enter your VIN. Some sites may require you to register first.

If the manufacturer is not listed below, call the new car dealership’s service department with your VIN and ask if there are any open recalls.

You can also use the Free Carfax Recall Check, but one of the benefits of using the manufacturer’s website is that you can receive mail and emails if there is a new recall issued on your vehicle.

It’s hard to spell Garrett

When I get a call and someone wants to know what our web address is I almost always have to spell Garrett. And if they don’t ask it usually gets misspelled and they do not find us. So with that in mind I have added 2 new domain names for an easy-to-remember address. KnoxCars.net and KnoxCars.org. A year from now I will need to choose which to keep and I will probably keep KnoxCars.net. We’re keeping GarrettMotors.net of course, but now you can type in any of the three to come to our site.

VIN Reports

I was reading the news yesterday and there was a law passed in California that requires dealers to run history reports on vehicles – then the fee is passed on to the consumer in the form of a doc fee. I checked out the government’s website and it had the list of the sites dealers could use for history reports. AutoCheck and CarFax is not on there, probably because of how expensive they are. They actually have a history report you can pull for $3.50. So I started pulling them on several of our vehicles because you really cannot beat that price. The only thing I don’t really like about them is it contains the same information that you would get by looking at the title. Anyway, feel free to have a look at them they are listed on almost each vehicle page. We’ve come across 2 so far that didn’t have a report available – which made me wonder, if it’s a requirement and it’s not available, how does that work?
